ESSEX   BOTANY   AND   MYCOLOGY  GROUPS 

In addition to the very detailed sets of records reported on this site, all modern, and where possible historical records, of Flowering Plants, Ferns and Bryophytes are being recorded on the database MapMate, the records being organized on a 1 x 1km (monad) basis. The Essex database for Flowering Plants and Ferns is synchronized every few weeks with the BSBI hub. which is uploaded at intervals onto the database at Monks Wood, and thence onto the NBN. A major effort is being made this year to get some 20,000 bryophyte records onto the MapMate database. At the present time the Higher Plant database stands at 104,000 records, the coverage map below shows the monads in red for which we have records outside of the area already well mapped by the Colchester Natural History Society together with the area of NW Essex that has been fully mapped but has not  yet  been entered (both areas shown in pale blue).  This database will eventually be married to the main Essex Field Club dynamic database (see www.essexfieldclub.org.uk).
